I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Pirates of the Caribbean. I mean, literally, every individual film numerous times, probably hundreds (I might not have a life). And, I find some scenes more funny than others because after all, it’s humor!
One of the scenes I find especially funny is found in POTC 3, where Jack loses his ship, turns to the two women and says “of course it makes you look fat” and “it’s pronounced egregious”. Which makes one wonder (or not) what she actually said. I can’t think of anything even remotely close but I’d sure like to know!
So… egregious. I can say with absolute confidence that if I have ever actually attempted to use this word in a sentence, I had no clue what I was saying! 🤣
Here’s the funny part… it’s either outstandingly bad OR remarkably good!! Ok ok ok… we have words like that, right? Back in the ‘80’s, the word was ‘bad’ which sometimes meant good. Today’s ‘sick’ isn’t so. If something’s ‘boss’, it’s not a reference to your employer. I love, love words that make a comeback or get changed to the polar opposite definition.
What’s a word you’ve used or like that has changed over time? Or, a word from a movie that really caught your ear? Share!
